Day 16 -- October 13 => Khumgjung to Phortse

At 7am, a group of us headed back up to the Everest View Hotel (EVH) arriving in 1/2 hour. The sky was clear and the views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khumbila were phenomenal. The sun was rising behind Thamserku on our right.

After 45 minutes at the EVH, we descended back to our camp site to pick up our day packs.

To reach out camp site in Phortse, we ascended up the valley towards Gokyo, arriving at a tea house in Mon La (3972m/13,030') around 10:30am. After a good rest, we descended steeply towards the Dudh Khosi, arriving at our lunch spot in Phortse Tenga (3643m/11,952') at 11:50am. This is one of the best lunch stops we had for the trip, a nice sunny area surrounded by trees and the Dudh Khosi rushing by. We spent an incredible two hours here having lunch and relaxing in the afternoon sun.

After crossing the wooden suspension bridge over the Dudh Khosi it was a fairly good climb to our campsite at the top of Phortse (3840m/12,600'), arriving at 2:40pm. Phortse is pronounced as "Fort-say".
